Filament PM was established in 2013, by an innovative chemist Jan Přindiš, as a subsidiary company of Plasty Mladec (abbreviation PM).
The parent company Plasty Mladec officially began operations in 1992, producing extruded plastic profiles and welding rods for plastic materials. The company is situated in Mladec.
Jan first joined Plasty Mladec in 2007, straight after the University of Chemistry; he was really passionate about his work.
He saw potential in the creation of filaments, and thought to himself, if he can make rods for welding, then he can make filaments.
Shortly after, he began to research and master the composition of input materials for the production of filaments. In 2013, the manufacture of filaments started, and the Filament PM brand was established. That same year the 1st production line was purchased.
In 2014, Filament PM began production for Prusa's (a 3D printer manufacturer) 3D farm. So MK2 - MK3 printers are made from our filaments. These printers are known all across the world and with them in boxes, our filament.
Now every person around the world, who received this printer, learned to print with a spool Filament PM material.
Just as we were concluding the contract with Prusa, in 2014, we bought the 2nd production line.
At the turn of the year 2016/2017, Filament PM moved to a larger site and bought two more production lines.
In 2018, another two production lines were purchased.
In 2019, the purchase of the 7th production line, and finally in 2020, the 8th production line was ordered. We should receive this line in December this year.
We have distributors in about 25 countries, and we are still working to expand our distribution network. Our goal is to spread all over the UK, US, and Asia.
Over the past couple of years, we have steadily gained distributors all over Europe.
2017 - Exclusive German distributor SchmelzBar.
2019 - Opening a US warehouse and US Amazon.
2021 - We are preparing a UK eshop.
We are constantly investing in streamlining production, semi-automation, in addition to stringent quality control. Our focus goes also into new production lines and innovative new materials.
When we first began, we started with ABS material, then PLA and ABS-T. We were one of the first in Europe to launch PETG.
Over time, we gradually added other special materials. Thanks to our boss´s skills as a chemist, we have developed materials which our competitions do not offer.
Nowadays, our portfolio consists of 16 types of materials in 2 diameters, in a wide range of colors. But that's not enough; we're constantly developing more material including wood, conductive materials, interesting colors, and also recycled filament.
Ecology - In Filament PM we also consider the ecological footprint. Energy from renewable sources (biogas plant) is used for the production of filaments. We are working on a system of returnable empty spools. And soon, we'll be offering recycled filament (from our waste).
At the onset of Filament PM, there were only three employees. Today, our company has over 50 employees in the workforce, helping to achieve our goals as a team.
At our company's workspace, there is a friendly atmosphere that encourages creativity. We are such a filament family: we and our distributors.
Our strategy is to ensure that every new employee, even if they work in an office, must go through the production and make their own spool. It's a good experience, as it helps them to see the whole production process.
